The FRS round-to-slit converter is a fiber optic assembly featuring seven fibers placed in a manner that allows for a round light collection bundle on one end and a stacked linear configuration on the other.
When a large core fiber is placed in front of the entrance slit of a spectrometer, the majority of the light is vinyetted and doesn’t make it into the spectrometer.
This design allows for precise alignment with the spectrometer's entrance slit, resulting in enhanced light throughput. This is achieved by utilizing many smaller fiber cores over a larger single one. Enhance sensitivity and signal to noise without sacrificing resolution - even with a narrow slit.
It is important to note that proper alignment of the stacked fiber to the spectrometer’s slit is crucial to achieve the highest signal.
